About Sarah
Sarah Levis is 29 years old and resides in Haliburton, Canada. Since starting to write at the age of 8, she has experimented with journalism, playwrighting, short fiction and novel-writing. She now writes personal essays to both document her recovery journey after two hemorrhagic strokes and a brain surgery at the age of 22 and to raise awareness of the issues faced by those that live with physical disabilities. Sarah’s health history, which includes left-side weakness and a continuing seizure disorder caused by post-surgery scar tissue in her brain, combines with extensive volunteer and employment experience in supporting people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities to give her a unique perspective on what it’s like to live with disabilities…and what it could (and should) be.
“Run, Run Because You Can: Essays of Journey - Essays of Joy”, Sarah’s first published book, is a journey with her through her recovery process - five weeks in hospital to stabilize after brain surgery to correct an arteriovenous malformation, five months in physical rehabilitation, and a process of personal change that has completely reshaped her outlook on what life is about and what makes us who we are.
